Don MacLean Inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame
[Collingwood, 24 October 2024] The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame announced that Don MacLean, founder of MacLean Engineering, is going to be inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame on January 9th, 2025, in Toronto. This recognition highlights his outstanding contributions to the mining industry over the past several decades and his commitment to innovation, leadership, and sustainability.
Don leaves behind a remarkable legacy spanning over five decades. As the driving force behind MacLean, he built the company on the foundation of long-term thinking and making the mining world a better, safer place for miners. He never used the words “green” or “sustainability,” but he always believed in doing what was right, even when there wasn’t yet a clear business case for it. Starting to roll out the MacLean EV Series product line in 2015, well before there was broad industry demand, is one such example. Don saw the importance of taking diesel particulate out of the underground environment, he predicted that a long-term shift in the industry was on the horizon, and so he made the business decision to orient the company’s product development efforts around providing customers with a diesel-free support fleet alternative. Because it was the right thing to do.
His visionary leadership continues to influence the industry’s path toward a greener future, embodying his belief that mining should evolve in harmony with environmental responsibility.
This prestigious recognition serves as a testament to Don MacLean’s enduring influence. As MacLean continues to push forward, inspired by his vision and values, his legacy continues through the second and third generations of the MacLean family, who proudly carry his vision forward.
